SUMMER OPPORTUNITY

For anyone interested in making films and getting community service hours this summer this may be for you.

On weekends over the course of the summer, MR. DAVE SHAW will be shooting a low budget feature length movie in the Nepean area. HE IS looking for an enthusiastic student, or a few, who might be willing to VOLUNTEER/work on the project. HE will be able to sign off on any volunteer hours you accrue, and you will be fed. He is using a digital SLR camera which also shoots full-HD video, and badly needs someone on the camera crew who is proficient with that sort of equipment. He can also use anyone who is able to help out as a PA, do some sound crew work, slating...basically anything! This would be a great working/learning environment for someone who is interested.

If you want to see a bit more info on the project, have a look at the videos etc. our production blog at http://lncpgorilla.blogspot.com

If you are interested, please contact Dave Shaw by email — mrdaveshaw@yahoo.ca

VISIT TO CUSTOM PRINTERS of RENFREW

Our senior graphic design classes had a great experiential learning experience on Friday, May 20 as they travelled up the valley to Renfrew to take part in an offset lithography workshop at Custom Printers of Renfrew. The students had previously created literacy themed bookmarks in class using traditional materials as well as computer imaging software. Our project was then assembled in Quark XPress and sent to Kerry Thompson and Ken Charron at Custom Printers, where the files were prepared for printing on the plant's large Heidelberg Press.
Student were able to follow their work to the press and watch their bookmarks being printed. They were amazed at the speed of the presses when compared to the digital methods they are so familiar and comfortable with.
We are indebted to the good folks at Custom Printers in Renfrew for making this opportunity available to our students!

MUSIC MONDAY

Mr. Ramin and his band played Tomorrow is Coming, the piece commisisioned for MUSIC MONDAY 2011— not in the music room — but en plein air on Election Day, Monday May 2. A bit of inclimate weather could not stop the show.

This year's Music Monday poster was designed by Lisa Gale's grade 11 visual art class and the students from Elmdale Public School. The poster was distributed across Canada in print and on the internet! This project was facilitated by local landscape artist David Jones. For more information about the poster go to http://musicmakesus.ca/musicmonday/2011/03/07/the-story-of-the-2011-music-monday-poster/

David joined us on Monday, along with Arts Advisory Council member Debbie Holzman and former MHS principal Mike Neill to celebrate the arts.
